  Scope of Activities

The Institute has completed Thirty-Two years of its scientific and research existence. The Institute has grown from a Division of Biostatistics in Indian Council of Medical Research to this height. During this period, it supported biomedical researches of the National relevance, developing research methodologies, evaluating national programmes and organizing need based training programmes for biostatisticians and biomedical scientists. The Institute has significantly contributed to sampling methodologies such as generalized estimation under successive sampling. It has also attempted to investigate the role of some sampling designs in case control studies for estimating relative risk. The Institute has completed number of projects of National importance viz. PHC facility survey in 90 demographically weak districts of India, Post Survey check of National Family Health survey. It also functions as UP Unit of National Nutrition Monitoring Bureau (NNMB). The Institute has been designated as the nodal agency by Government of India to provide technical support to end line evaluation survey of eight India population Project.

  • Clinical Trial Registry, India (CTRI) recognised as a primary register of International Clinical Trial Registry platform.
  • Member of Global Reference Group for HIV estimation Technical Advisory Committee.
  • Member of Science and Technology Group for HIV/AIDS in Asia Pacific Region.

  Recognition for Doctorate/Masters by a University

NIMS is affiliated as an approved research centre for Ph.D in Medical Statistics by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi.

  Major Achievements

  • India’s only institute to coordinate and standardize the collection of medical and health statistics in the country.
  • Establishment of India's first Clinical Trials Registry, in collaboration with DST and WHO.
  • Chair, National Family Health Survey.
  • Assisted NACO in HIV sentinel surveillance and estimation of HIV burden in the country.
  • Integrated Behavioural and Biological Assessment on National Highways (IBBA-NH) among truckers for HIV epidemic in the country.
  • Identified as the National Nodal Agency for the implementation of IDSP- NCD risk factor survey.
